Sharp Business Systems and Cherokee County School District Donate 1,0000 Pre-Owned Ink Jet Printers to Support the Community and Environment

MAHWAH, NJ, September 20, 2011 -- Sharp Business Systems of South Carolina recently implemented a significant Managed Print Services (MPS) program for the Cherokee County School District. Not only did this MPS program save the school district thousands of dollars, but also helped to give back to the community. As part of the MPS program, Sharp Business Systems performed a printer fleet refresh which replaced almost 1,000 older inkjet printers. The school district and Sharp Business Systems teamed up to donate the used printers to Goodwill Industries. Sharp staff removed the inkjet printers from the classrooms and repackaged the old printers with the boxes from the new units to lessen the environmental impact. And, to minimize transportation, the printers were stored in the Sharp Business Systems warehouse until enough units were accumulated to fill a delivery truck and then shipped to the Goodwill Greenville location. Some of the printer donation uses are as follows:

1. Goodwill refurbishes, then sells the printers at a retail location. Proceeds are used to provide job readiness training to individuals in the community.

2. Several units may be used for internal printing at Goodwill industries, if need be.

3. A number of units are sent to Dell® through a partnership program with Goodwill. Dell uses these units for a variety of charitable causes. Dell also ensures the units are refurbished or responsibly recycled. Find out more about Dell’s program here: http...
“This generous donation from Sharp Business Systems will go a long way toward helping Goodwill provide career training and job search assistance for people who are searching for employment. Additionally, our Reconnect program, a partnership with Dell, enables us to responsibly recycle and reuse these items so that they are not disposed of in landfills. This is a huge benefit for our environment, and the job training and placement services that are supported by donations like this one make a tremendous impact on our community by helping people find employment,” said Crystal Hardesty, Director of Marketing for Goodwill Industries.

Tommy Pickens, Sharp Business Systems of South Carolina President, said “We are thrilled to be involved with such a worthy cause. We have been a Goodwill Industries supporter for a long time. I believe in their cause, and we’re happy to help Goodwill as they help the community and contribute to our green initiatives at the same time.”

To learn more about Sharp’s environmental practices visit: http://w...
