Management Science
Management science is the practice of taking a business process and breaking it down to its component parts. These parts can then be represented by mathematical variables in a formula. Businesses use formulas to calculate how and where to optimize business processes.
The more information that an enterprise can gather, the better they can determine how to optimize their business processes.
This need for accurate business process metrics is the driving force that has motivated so many industries to create software systems for collecting their product’s metrics and provide useful information to their customers. The document device industry is an industry that recognizes the customer’s need for document management metrics. The Samsung engineers have developed a software solution for collecting business metrics from document devices. This product is CounThruTM Managed Print Service. The current version of CounThruTM is version 2, and it is designed in two configurations: one for internal device monitoring and one for external device monitoring. The internally focused solution is CounThruTM 2 Enterprise and the externally focused solution is CounThruTM 2 Professional.
CounThruTM 2 is a managed print service from Samsung that delivers the management science metrics needed to optimize the document business process.
Samsung Offers Embedded Common Access Cards for More Secure Multifunction Printers
RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J.-- Samsung Electronics America Inc., a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Corporation, recently introduced a Common Access Card (CAC) solution which provides higher level security for sensitive government information.
“Samsung’s printer solutions, like the embedded CAC solution, are developed in direct response to our customers needs”
.Using the Samsung CAC solution, an organization can restrict unauthorized users from sending sensitive documents via multifunction printers (MFPs). Required by the Homeland Security Presidential Directive HSPD-12, the solution is approved by the U.S. Department of Defense and meets or exceeds all necessary security protocols, including Common Criteria Certification.
The CAC solution is embedded into the firmware of the MFP and offers increased security when compared to other CAC options that require an external piece of hardware between the MFP and network. The solution allows LDAP authentication to bring in the users’ address book.

Samsung Introduces Four New Color Laser Printers for Faster, More Economical Small Work Group Printing
Samsung color and printing technology allows fast printing, high quality color and low power consumption for the economic business user
RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J.-- Samsung Electronics America Inc., a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Corporation, has unveiled its latest range of color printers for SMB users. The single-function Samsung CLP-670ND and CLP-620ND, and CLX-6220FX and CLX-6250FX multifunction printers were designed for the business user looking for professional performance from an economic device.
“Our new family of color laser printers allows organizations to benefit from printers which have the features of much more complex pieces of equipment, while remaining very affordable to buy and maintain.”
.“The small or mid-size business user shouldn’t have to compromise printer quality because of cost,” says Ken Colby, director of printer marketing at Samsung Electronics Information Technology Division. “Our new family of color laser printers allows organizations to benefit from printers which have the features of much more complex pieces of equipment, while remaining very affordable to buy and maintain.”
HIGH PERFORMANCE, ECONOMIC EFFICIENCY
Unlike traditional fusing technology, Samsung Instant Fusing (IFS) technology employs a thin flexible sleeve and a lamp, versus a thick roller and slow heating element, to fuse the toner quickly for faster printing and lower power consumption. IFS also assists printers to save power during sleep mode by turning off the heating lamp, which reduces power consumption considerably.
The color printers include the cost-effective Samsung TonerSave™ feature, that allows users to monitor and limit toner usage for extended cartridge life and reduced cost per page.
The printers also include a PowerSave Mode that reduces the cost of printing by lowering the temperature of the machine, creating a more durable environment for printer components that reduces maintenance needs.
Samsung Launches Premier Color Laser MFP, Experiences B2B Growth
By Carl Schell, Associate Editor, December 15, 2009
At its spacious and slick showroom, Samsung Experience, at the Time Warner Center in New York City, Samsung Electronics America (SEA) officially introduced its new flagship hybrid color laser printer, the MultiXpress CLX-8540ND. Additionally, company representatives provided a handful of industry analysts with an update on B2B sales. Though the briefing was short, the news was long on success stories and examples of how Samsung continues to be a factor in the document imaging market.
Converging On A3
News of Canon’s proposed acquisition of Océ is just the most recent instance of the consolidation that’s happened in the industry. However, with the economy still facing major hurdles to get back to respectability, device consolidation has become even more prevalent in the last year or two. Replacing an underutilized A3 device for a printer MFP that a few departments can share is one example of an organization streamlining its operation and being more cost-conscious.
And that’s why Samsung’s developed the MultiXpress CLX-8540ND—the flagship of the company’s B2B portfolio. The A4/legal color MFP, which carries a suggested retail price of $8,249, has a rated speed of 40 ppm in color and black. Offering standard network print and scan, and copy functionality, as well as all types of optional fax capabilities, the CLX-8540ND is “designed for workgroups in large corporate environments and SMBs,” said Doug Albregts, vice president of SEA’s Information Technology Division, adding that it’ll help bridge the gap between letter/legal versus ledger printers by including advanced features typically found on traditional A3 devices.
Three of these “advanced” features are auto-color detection, whereby pages in a mixed color-and-black document are output accordingly; scan-to-hard drive functionality, which allows a file to be stored on the unit and subsequently be printed on demand; and standard accounting, allowing administrators to manage usage for individuals that, in turn, provides increased security and helps conserve consumables.
Though more or less typical of A4 devices in this speed range, the CLX-8540ND has a customizable full-color touch-screen LCD; on-board editing tools to enhance color output—Easy Color Manager; and comprehensive security measures, including standard hard drive overwrite, various methods of authentication and IPsec, IPv6 and SSL support. Standard and maximum memory capacities are 1 and 2 GB, respectively, while standard and maximum paper capacities are 620 and 2,720 sheets, respectively. The internal tray has a capacity of 500 sheets, and organizations can purchase an optional internal finisher that staples up to 50 sheets in one position; the 2-bin staple finisher and 4-bin mailbox sorter offer a combined capacity of 1,000 sheets, while the former can staple up to 50 sheets in one position. (For more information about the CLX-8540ND, stay tuned for the upcoming Lab Test Report.)
Samsung Announces Its Premier Color Multifunction Printer for High Speed Offices
RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J.-- Samsung Electronics America Inc., a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Corporation, proudly announced its premier color laser multifunction printer (MFP), the MultiXpress CLX-8540ND. Having an MSRP of $8,249.00, the CLX-8540ND is currently offered by Samsung’s valued network of Service Dealers and OA Distributors.
“The CLX-8540ND is our flagship hybrid printer designed as a printer-copier solution for workgroups in large corporate environments and for copy-intensive small-to-mid size businesses,” said Doug Albregts, vice president, Information Technology Division, Samsung Electronics America Inc. “Along with being one of the fastest digital color printers on the market, the CLX-8540ND also bridges the gap between Letter/Legal verses Ledger printers by including advanced printer and copier features usually only found on larger machines. What we’ve done is simplify the selection process for IT managers who are looking for a truly multifunctional printer.”
SPEED, SPEED, SPEED
The CLX-8540ND is one of the fastest color MFPs on the market capable of replacing or complementing bulky Ledger MFPs. The high volume of printing and copying required by large workgroups, such as government offices or university centers, are easily met by the CLX-8540ND’s quick startup time, up to 40 pages per minute (PPM) output capability and up to a 100,000 sheet monthly duty cycle. To process multiple jobs, the CLX-8540ND is equipped with an 800 MHz processor, 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive. The end result is print jobs and high resolution scans are processed, stored and handled quickly and easily. The optional paper tray capacity, expandable to 2,720 sheets, allows the CLX-8540ND to run large print jobs without interruption.
CRISP COLOR
The CLX-8540ND’s Real-Time Calibration Technology creates consistently clear, sharp color prints at 9,600 x 600 dpi. Samsung’s Easy Color Manager software allows the convenience of on-screen adjustment of color balance, brightness, contrast and saturation. The Auto Color Detection feature alleviates the hassle of differentiating between color and black & white prints and automatically adjusts toner usage, saving money. Documents, either letter or legal, can also be scanned at an enhanced up to 4,800 x 4,800 dpi and then saved, printed, e-mailed or faxed to any networked location.
Samsung's New Compact Mono Laser Printers
Samsung will shortly release a new range of mono laser printers and MFPs, starting with the modest ML-1910 personal laser printer, which online retailers are already pricing at a very affordable £83, and going up to the SCX-4623FN MFP (speculatively priced at £189) and single-function ML-2580N (£108).
Even the most expensive of these is hardly going to break the bank, although none is exactly what we'd describe as an office workhorse. Only two, the SCX-4623FN and ML-2580N, have Ethernet ports for network printing and their high yield cartridges can only print 2.500 pages before they need replacing.
Samsung MultiXpress SCX-6545N High Performance Laser Copier MFP Caters to Growing Market
RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. -- Samsung Electronics America Inc., a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Corporation, announced today the release of the MultiXpress SCX-6545N, a Network-Ready Monochrome Multifunction Laser Copier with the capability of printing up to 45 ppm (pages per minute). With an MSRP of $4,999.00, the SCX-6545N is one of the most cost-effective MFP’s on the market-to-date, offering medium-to-large size businesses an alternative to current A3 copier options.
A recent Accenture study showed that although the A3 market is larger in dollar volume verses the A4 market, A3 paper (11x17) capabilities were utilized a mere 5 percent of the time opening the door for feature-rich A4 MFP copiers like the SCX-6545N at 20% less the cost.
“Companies are buying capabilities they don’t use, which costs them money, so they need to rethink their overall purchasing strategy” said Mr. Doug Albregts, Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Information Technology Division, Samsung Electronics America Inc. “The MultiXpress series has great performance and features and a better value. For customers, especially in the corporate and government arena, concerned with maximizing their investment, the SCX-6545N copier is reliable, flexible and cost-effective.”
Performance and Efficiency
The SCX-6545N is geared towards medium-to-large size workplaces that require fast, high volume printing, up to 45 ppm in black and white. Even in duplex printing mode, the SCX-6545N is still capable of printing as high as 40 ppm, making it one of the fastest A4 printers in the market.
The SCX-6545N can quickly connect to any network environment with its high-speed gigabit Ethernet interface. For heavy network printing demands, the powerful 500 MHz CPU, 256MB of memory (expandable to 512MB), and PCL and PS3 emulation help alleviate bottlenecks resulting in increased performance and office efficiencies.
