Konica Minolta Addresses the Education Market

CaptureAbstract
This document looks at the trends in the education market, how technology solutions can help address some of the challenges this market faces today, and how Konica Minolta addresses this market with their solutions.

Executive Summary
The economic stimulus plan is providing the nation’s school districts, child care centers, and university campuses with billions in new federal spending, a vast two-year investment that would more than double the Department of Education’s current budget. Although a majority of the education stimulus plan will primarily be used for financial aid and new educational programs, a good portion will be used for infrastructure enhancements and improvements.

The education market has generally been divided into two major segments—K-12 and Higher Education. Each area has specific pain points they address when it comes to technology enhancements, but there are some similarities in overall technology improvements that streamline processes to save money in the long run. This paper will address how Konica Minolta Business Solutions has been able to deliver a winning combination of hardware, software, and services that can help both segments of the education market improve processes while also reducing print and output costs.

Taking MFP Applications in the Office to the Next Level

CaptureThis white paper has been prepared on behalf of Konica Minolta Business Technologies by Bissett Communications, publisher of THE MFP REPORT newsletter. It updates a previous white paper (“Leveraging the Office MFP Software Opportunity: A Technical and Marketing White Paper on Konica Minolta’s OpenAPI MFP Software Development Platform”) released in March 2007. The initial white paper coincided with Konica Minolta’s announcement in Europe of OpenAPI, the company’s first Web services application environment designed to enable development of server-based applications that interact with networked Konica Minolta bizhub multifunction peripheral (MFP) devices in office environments.

Significant changes in the MFP marketplace and in Konica Minolta’s software technology have occurred since OpenAPI debuted, and more changes are expected in coming months. These changes warrant a more current assessment. In particular, this updated white paper coincides Konica Minolta’s release of its new bizhub Extended Solution Technology to selected software partners and sales companies. “bEST” encompasses, extends and supersedes the original OpenAPI platform in order to provide a richer set of programmable services and control panel presentation capabilities.

Meanwhile, the market for MFP software tools has expanded dramatically in terms of the number of participating MFP manufacturers, the level of interest among independent software vendors, the breadth of MFP manufacturers’ software tools and partnering programs, and the receptivity of customers and sales channels to MFP-related solutions and applications.

Fundamentals of Security for Konica Minolta Bizhub Multifunctional Digital Office Machines

CaptureWith the dramatic increase in volume of sensitive and confidential information in electronic form, various government sponsored security regulations tie together the security and integrity of technological systems and processes. Security technology has become critically important as various organizations and businesses use their electronic systems to comply with government regulations. Recent laws and initiatives include:

• HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act)
• Sarbanes-Oxley Act (Financial Accounting)
• Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (Finance)
• Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002 (FISMA) and FDA 21 CFR Part 11 (Food and Drugs)
• ISO 15408, also known as, Common Criteria Certification

In response to these regulations, Konica Minolta has taken a lead role in developing and implementing security-based information technologies in Multi-Function office machines. Ever since the introduction of the first Konica Minolta MFP, Konica Minolta has strived to develop and implement technologies that safeguard the confidentiality of electronic documents.

With the growing popularity of connected Office Machines, people in various industries will increasingly look to MFPs as an efficient and cost effective method of distributing, storing and receiving sensitive electronic information. Security measures for Konica Minolta MFPs can easily be adopted for use in the wide range of industries where electronic document security is important. This requirement will grow more relevant as the trend towards electronic storage and maintenance of sensitive information continues. Whether installed in a small office as a workgroup device or in a large hospital as a departmental workhorse, Konica Minolta MFPs can provide you with the security, reliability and stability that security professionals demand and require. To date the only official security based certification standard for digital office products is an international standard generally known as Common Criteria. Ramsey, N.J. - July 22, 2010 - Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. (Konica Minolta), a leading provider of advanced imaging and networking technologies for the desktop to the print shop, announced today that PIP Printing of Burlington, NC (PIP Printing) has chosen Konica Minolta's award-winning bizhub PRO® 6501, bizhub PRO C6500 and bizhub PRO 1050e Digital Presses to enhance both its traditional and digital printing operation and deliver a full line of integrated marketing services.  With the adoption of three Konica Minolta systems, PIP Printing has been able to automate work to drive down costs and more quickly deliver jobs to customers, leveraging device redundancy so downtime is never an issue.

The ability to connect consumers with a business has changed due to digital technology, with endless possibilities now available.  For example, through the use of a mobile tag such as a QR Code, a link is produced through a program that creates a printable 2D barcode.  When it is scanned with a code-reading equipped Smartphone, it can take a user to Website, product video, personalized URL, coupon or offer, event promotion, business contact, Email address or other location that offers the customer something unique.  High speed digital printing combined with the need for on-the-spot information is how PIP Burlington partners with Konica Minolta to keep up with and exceed customer demands.
