Municipal Code Corporation Improves Productivity with Océ VarioPrint 6160 Printers and Océ PRISMAprepare Software

February 05, 2009 – Trumbull, CT – Océ, an international leader in digital document management and delivery, announced today that Municipal Code Corporation, one of the nation's leading legal codification and government publishers, has installed three cutsheet Océ VarioPrint ® 6160 duplex printing systems, along with Océ PRISMAprepare TM document preparation software to upgrade its digital printing infrastructure in Tallahassee, Florida. The Océ printers are used to generate duplex Codes of Ordinances and utility bills in cost-effective short runs for municipalities nationwide. The company selected the Océ systems to improve productivity, reliability, uptime, image quality and operational efficiencies. Productivity has already improved by approximately 30 percent, according to Philip Claiborne, Chief Information Officer for Municipal Code Corporation.

Municipal Code Corporation has more than 55 years of experience publishing Codes of Ordinances, land use codes, and charters for local governments, from original codifications to republications and updates, in both print and electronic format. Cities and counties in 50 states depend on Municipal Code Corporation to publish, supplement and distribute their Codes of Ordinances. The company attributes its leadership in local government publishing to a reputation for high quality, responsive service, the expertise of a professional staff of attorneys, legal researchers, and editors, and a focus on advanced technology.

"With the Océ digital printing technology, we now have one of the industry's most productive and reliable digital duplex cutsheet printing systems," said Mr. Claiborne. "As our clients require rapid turnaround of complex applications like codification books and municipal utility bills, we can respond with a state-of-the-art duplex printing platform that improves productivity, accelerates turnaround, reduces environmental impact and delivers consistent quality and registration accuracy. We are already experiencing significant improvements in productivity of approximately 30 percent."

"Since their installation, the Océ VarioPrint 6160 systems have met all of our expectations for quality, productivity and reliability, enabling us to quickly deliver impressive results for our clients in local governments across the country. We can produce the same amount of work in less time with less labor because we're using three machines instead of five. The systems are so productive that we've been able to reduce overtime costs during our peak production period and run a phantom second shift where the system runs unattended for four hours at the end of the day," said Claiborne. "In addition, we can speed-upgrade the systems to the next level of performance with minimal cost and disruption as our volumes grow."

Municipal Code Corporation installed its first Océ VarioPrint 6160 digital duplex system in October 2008, followed by two more systems in November 2008. The total configuration includes three Océ VarioPrint 6160 systems and Océ PRISMAprepare software. Ideal for mid- to high-volume cut-sheet environments, the systems are part of a totally integrated PDF workflow. Municipal Code Corporation uses Océ PRISMAprepare media programming to further automate tab updates and inserting and uses its color splitting feature to streamline offline color printing.

"The Océ VarioPrint 6160 is an extremely productive digital duplex printing system that enables Municipal Code Corporation to print a variety of duplex applications rapidly and with less downtime, lower heat output, more energy efficiency and maximum productivity. Because 95 percent of the company's applications are duplex, the Océ VarioPrint solution enhances the company's competitive advantage," said Océ North America Production Printing Systems Vice President of Marketing, Eric De Goeijen.

About the Océ VarioPrint 6160 system
The Océ VarioPrint 6160 system is a part of the award-winning family of Océ VarioPrint 6000 cutsheet printers, with speeds from 160 to 250 prints per minute. Powered by Océ Gemini Instant Duplex technology, which BERTL ® named "one of the most groundbreaking technological advancements in the history of electrophotography," the system presses images into both sides of the page in a single pass. The result is higher productivity, offset-class quality, and near-perfect registration.
