Kofax to Provide U.S. Bureau of the Census with a Document Capture Solution

IRVINE, CA, February 18, 2009 – Kofax plc (LSE: KFX), the leading provider of Intelligent Capture & Exchange solutions, today announced it has received a major order from the U.S. Bureau of the Census, the nation's leading source of statistical information about the American people and economy. Kofax will provide a solution for digitally capturing and processing more than 17 million pages of employment applications and related information per year. The value of the contract to Kofax is more than $300,000.

Following a competitive evaluation process and the deployment of proof-of-concept system, Kofax was selected to provide a solution to digitize, match and categorize millions of pages of employment forms and background materials. Capturing and processing these documents electronically will enable the organization to reduce time-consuming manual tasks, automate paper-intensive activities and process vital data more efficiently, accurately and cost effectively.

“There is increasing demand for government agencies and organizations to transition from traditional paper-based systems to automated document processes that are efficient, reliable and highly secure, particularly for sensitive data,” said Andrew Pery, Chief Marketing Officer at Kofax. “Our solutions are easy to deploy and use, and can manage and process highly challenging volumes and complex documents.”

The U.S. Bureau of the Census will be implementing a full complement of Kofax software based on its Intelligent Capture & Exchange concept, the centerpiece of the company's strategy to help organizations streamline business processes. These include:

  • Kofax Capture, the world's leading information capture platform, which automates data capture from scanned paper or imported electronic documents; and
  • Kofax Transformation Modules, which intelligently automate the classification, sorting and separation of paper and electronic documents, and then extract and validate the information they contain.

“The customer needed a sophisticated solution to handle the complex process of capturing and transforming crucial documents that must be legally assessed and verified quickly, securely and accurately,” said Randy Blevins at EDAC Systems, Inc., the Kofax Certified Solution Provider that sold and is deploying the solution. "This solution provides a ready-to-use system that automates millions of document pages quickly and efficiently within a large-scale enterprise environment.”
