Ricoh Positioned in the ‘Leaders’ Quadrant of The Magic Quadrant for Managed Print Services Worldwide
West Caldwell, NJ, October 31, 2011 - Ricoh Company, Ltd., a worldwide leader in digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, has been named a leader in Gartner, Inc.’s “Magic Quadrant: Managed Print Services Worldwide.”(1)
Managed print services (MPS) is defined as the active management and optimization of document output devices and related business processes.(2) While many MPS offerings focus tightly on devices and print management, Ricoh Managed Document Services™ (Ricoh MDS) addresses all business information, including its input (creation), throughput (workflow) and output (processing for added business value), whether paper-based or electronic. As a result, companies gain access to the right information at the right time in the right form.
According to Gartner, Leaders provide MPS to a wide range of customers, including the largest and most geographically dispersed, so they must demonstrate a truly global reach. They must demonstrate not only the skills to deliver today’s MPS, but also the understanding, initiative and resources to prepare for tomorrow’s MPS. Leaders characteristically augment the full scope of MPS with a wide range of added-value services. As a result, they are frequently shortlisted by large and midsize customers.
Epson Telford Requirements
The 42,000 m2 plant in Shropshire is Epson’s sole European manufacturing site and employs 1,100 staff involved in plastic injection moulding and ink cartridge assembly, in clean rooms where continuous system operation requires a 24/7 precise cooling capability that is both efficient and reliable.
Air conditioning plays a major role in the Epson manufacturing facility. Computers and machinery in the clean rooms need to be kept at 22°C to remain in optimum working condition. Keeping them at this precise temperature is difficult to maintain in a room filled with people and machinery. Air quality is also a major priority making it imperative that all the components and equipment are free from dust and debris from the air.
Two standard Airedale chillers have been supplying cooling to all indoor units at Epson, with close control units providing reliable and precisely-controlled air conditioning in Epson’s two clean rooms. Ceiling cassettes have also been installed in other areas for staff comfort.
Now, with the cooling load on site increasing and new free-cooling technology available from Airedale, forward-thinking management at Epson has superseded the two existing Airedale chillers with three Ultima FreeCool chillers that will expand system capability at the same time as significantly cutting energy costs.
Shockingly, it is estimated that 9 out of 10 businesses do not have the means of appropriately monitoring in house printing. Without this ability, printing costs can get out of hand quickly. In business, especially with the economy in the state it is, businesses must be seeking ways to save money in every way they can. Print management programs have been created as a way to control office printing and start saving money.
Here are some more startling statistics regarding office printing:
· Over 50% of documents that are printed get discarded or become obsolete in the same day they are printed.
Many of us know the woes associated with physical document management systems. Depending on your level of experience with physical document management, you understand the problems that can come from this traditional means of managing documents. Documents frequently are lost or misfiled, meaning that the next individual who needs access cannot find it when needed.
This scenario can be a serious hindrance on productivity. Aside from being an inefficient means of managing and filing documents, physical document storage leaves little in the way of document security. With a digital document management system you no longer have to worry about these issues.
Digital document management allows for digital archiving of all the documents in your office. Benefits of digital document management include:
· Increased Productivity – Employees can archive, search and retrieve documents easier than ever, all right from their desk.

Document Management systems are quickly becoming popular means to reorganize the data within an organization and make it more accessible to those who need it. Document Management systems give your office the ability to archive documents digitally, increasing efficiency and saving money.
Traditional means of Document Management can actually become a hindrance on a business if left unattended. It is very easy to let physical documents take over your storage and office space. The more physical documents that your office has, the more likely documents are to get lost or misfiled.
· 90% of documents are still stored on paper
· Documents on average are copied 19 times in their lifetime
· It costs an office an average of $120 in labor to find misfiled documents
Businesses are finding many interesting ways to reduce printing within their business. While little changes here and there definitely help the cause of reducing printing, more drastic measures usually need to be taken to significantly reduce printing. We all must do our part to reduce printing and to help the environment.
Here are a few steps that will significantly reduce printing:
· Perform a Print Audit: A Print Audit measures printing in your office and shows you exactly where printing takes place, by individual user.
· Inform Employees: Let employees know the results of the print audit, encouraging them to take the necessary steps to reduce printing.

Bowling continues, "With the Contex scanner, we don't have to rescan documents. Before, we would have to go back to the original mylars or transparencies to access various images. Now, we have all the elements, which we can easily access for future use."
