Print Audit® To Present the Benefits of Rules-Based Printing at 2010 MPS Conference
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - April 29 2010 – Print Audit® will share their insights with leaders in the managed print service industry at the second annual North American MPS Conference this spring. The conference, which will be held at the Omni La Mansion Del Rio in San Antonio,TX from May 3 - 5, will feature interactive presentations, focus groups, and case studies regarding the best approaches for vendors, channel partners, and others interested in successful print management programs.
Print Audit is a silver sponsor of the event and will also be exhibiting during the conference. In addition, the Calgary-based print management company will present on rules-based printing on Tuesday, May 4, at 10:30 a.m. The presentation, entitled, “Adding Print Rules to Your MPS Program,” will explain how printing-rules can benefit both dealers and end-users by driving more volumes to the dealer’s devices, significantly cutting costs for the end-user, and making organizations greener.
Controlling Print Costs with a Document Management Solution
When considering the many costs that an organization has to expend, one of the most misunderstood is that of printing costs.
The Gartner Group estimates that as much as 30% of organizations' print costs can be eliminated with simple technology solutions.
The Business World is a rapidly changing entity, and technology helps adapt to these changes quickly and will help a company keep its competitive advantage. Paper has always been an inefficient medium for conducting business processes, and recently has become a key focus for Business Process Improvement (BPI) initiatives. So what are the main reasons for a company or organization to move towards the paperless environment?
Below are the two main categories:
1. Operation Efficiency and Business Process Improvement
Using a digital repository can improve productivity. This is an obvious benefit. Any time you can reduce the time required to perform a required task, that time can be applied elsewhere. A basic online search for a customer file requires about 5 seconds. To accomplish the same information lookup with a physical file cabinet can take 10 – 25 minutes, or perhaps even days if the file is held in offsite storage. This is just for basic lookups, and not complex searches, which could take weeks if performed through the physical file system.
Colour Printing, Get Noticed, Get Remembered
Did you know that colour is one of the easiest ways to increase sales?
Research indicates that using colour and graphics increases interest, retention, and improves comprehension.
The facts:
- Colour improves comprehension by 75%
- Colour increases retention 40%
- Colour accelerates learning by 20%1
According to Kathleen H. Seelye, “Colour and graphics add 78% retention, while a photo can result in a 130% increase in retention.”2
Use an Image to Almost Double Your Persuasiveness
A study conducted by the University of Minnesota found that the use of simple graphics increased the persuasiveness of a message by 47%. To measure the effect, they had a group of people read a passage of text and rate it for persuasiveness. Then they had another group rate the exact same text, only this time it included a graphic. The score jumped by 47%!3

Canon’s Managed Document Services Reaches Australian Shores
This week sees the Australian launch of Canon Managed Document Services (Canon MDS) as part of its global initiative to provide effective management of a customer’s entire document environment. This includes printing devices, user printing behaviour, document management and workflow solutions.
“The service goes far beyond just innovation in hardware. It’s about partnering with a business to deliver a highly flexible, integrated approach to workflow, document and print management. It’s about finding a solution that saves money, increases productivity and provides a sustainable approach for environmental responsibility,” said Danielle Brender, Product Manager MDS, Canon Australia.
While Canon has offered Managed Print Services in the Asia Pacific region for more than six years, this is the first time the service has been expanded with a wider remit around document management, and provides a standardised methodology to deliver service globally. For customers with a regional or global footprint, this means greater efficiency and reliability while retaining the importance of local understanding and contacts for management of the service.
Canon MDS also supports devices beyond the Canon range, allowing customers to optimise the printer fleets they have, while working with Canon expertise to design a technology roadmap to meet the future needs of the business.
Kyocera Looks To Make Its Mark With Dealers At 2010 Dealer Meeting
By George Mikolay, Senior Product Editor, A3/Copier MFPs, April 27, 2010

FS-C2126 MFP
The theme of the Kyocera’s recent dealer meeting held in Orlando, FL was “Building the Future…Together,” and with 85 percent of Kyocera’s revenue coming from its dealers in North and South America, the message is sincere. On the surface, it appears as if Kyocera’s dealer strategy over the past 12 to 18 months, in which the company introduced more than 30 new products to its Kyocera and Copystar dealers, as well as an industry-first three-year dealer warranty to cover all new MFPs, is paying dividends. Kyocera went from 23 single-line Alliance dealers in March of 2009 to 182 currently. The company plans to keep expanding the Alliance program by doing more of the same, announcing plans to launch 22 new product models this fiscal year. The company is also implementing a strategy to support its dealers in developing Managed Print Services (MPS) offerings, as well as a comprehensive HyPAS Developer Support Program.
On The Hardware Side
Models introduced at the meeting included a series of color and monochrome A4 multifunctional printers, eight new color A3 MFPs ranging from 20 to 70 pages per minute (ppm) in color, seven monochrome A3 MFPs ranging from 25 to 80 ppm, as well as color and monochrome ECOSYS printers. On the A4 MFP front, the FS-3040MFP and FS-3140MFP are slated for a June launch, as Kyocera looks to strongly position itself in the 40 ppm black-and-white A4 space. Designed from the FS-3920 printer engine, which demonstrated excellent reliability in BLI’s lab testing, the FS-3040MFP and FS-3140MFP will feature standard print, copy and color scan, as well as standard fax on the FS-3140 model. Both A4 models will also feature standard duplexing and Kyocera’s ASi drum, with a PM cycle of 300,000 impressions.
Launching in July, the 3-in-1 FS-C2026MFP and the 4-in-1 FS-C2126 MFP will offer rated speeds of 28 ppm and incorporate Kyocera’s micro-particle toner technology. Featuring standard color print, copy and scan, as well as black-and-white fax on the FS-2126, these A4 color models will feature a standard duplexing, along with a maximum paper capacity of 1,300-sheets. USB host printing and scanning will also be available.
TTP cuts time to market for OEMs using Kyocera KJ4 printheads
27 April 2010, TTP is pleased to announce the release of the Meteor Head Driver Card “HDC-K” for the new Kyocera KJ4 printhead types KJ4B-HD06MHG-STDV2 and KJ4A-GD06AHG-STDN2/STDC2. This new driver card enables OEMs to integrate new Kyocera KJ4 printheads with less cost, time and risk. Printer manufacturers already using a TTP Meteor controller will recognise the software interface, additionally reducing their time to bring a Kyocera-based print system to the market.

Landfill Issues Global Concern
- Most trash throughout the world will end up in landfills, some will be remanufactured or recycled, some will be burned and some will be illegally dumped on land and into oceans. !In the United States, 90% of solid wastes are disposed of in some sort of landfill.
- In the last 20 years, there has been growing awareness of the need to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. This is due to lack of space as well as waste of resource involved in this disposal method.
Problematic Dumping of e-Waste
- Many products are being transported to areas without strict environmental controls.
- These may easily be products that consumers think are being recycled, but end up dumped where they pollute water, ground and air.
Xerox, EFI Extend Adobe PDF Print Engine Functionality to New Xerox Color Presses; Allow More Jobs to Flow Through Print Shop
Foster City, Calif. - April 21, 2010 - Graphic communications industry leaders Xerox Corporation (NYSE:XRX) and EFI (Nasdaq:EFII) are helping print service providers move more jobs through their shops faster, and in turn, drive greater revenue with the availability of the Adobe® PDF Print Engine (APPE).
APPE, introduced as the foundation for the next generation of PDF print workflows by Adobe in 2006, is now available for Xerox's new Color 800/1000 Presses driven by the Xerox EX Print Server Powered by EFI Fiery® and Xerox's FreeFlow® Print Server. The technology is displayed in Xerox booth 601 at ON DEMAND, a leading digital printing conference and expo held this week in Philadelphia.
APPE uses the same core imaging technologies as industry-leading Adobe applications, effectively streamlining the hand-off between job creator and printer. For example, APPE provides a significant customer benefit by delivering greater color consistency and workflow flexibility by processing native PDF files without conversion to PostScript. Native PDF rendering improves end-to-end predictability and reliability of the entire print process while reducing delays, prepress prep time and rework. APPE also uses JDF-based automation technologies, resulting in greater overall throughput.
"By harnessing the full power of the PDF imaging model through final rendering, this technology will raise the bar on digital print quality, streamline end-to-end job processing and accelerate production efficiency," says Dr. Naresh Gupta, senior vice president, Print and Publishing at Adobe.
Range of Xerox Digital Color Systems Gives Print Providers Competitive Advantage
PHILADELPHIA, April 21, 2010 – Print providers who rely on digital color technology from Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) have proven that applications such as custom photo books, personalized creative mailers and scrap booking supplies are providing new profitable revenue streams and business opportunities.
Their testimonies correspond to a Caslon1 forecast that reports digital color page volume in North America will grow from nearly 10 percent of digital pages in 2008 to almost 50 percent of all digital pages printed – more than 325 billion pages – by 2017.
Martech, a strategic communications and digital imaging firm based in Kansas City, Kan., recently installed two Xerox iGen4™ Presses with Xerox FreeFlow® VIPP PRO Publisher, to expand its printing capabilities and attract new clients.
“The iGen4’s outstanding color matching and variable-data printing capabilities have led to innovative new projects and growth,” said Sam Schembri, chairman and CEO, Martech. “The heavy weight stock options allow us to print on a range of coated, uncoated and specialty papers – enabling us to produce pieces with creative, one-to-one messaging that differentiate them from traditional mailers or collateral.”
Looking to support a growing photo book business, AlphaGraphics®, based in Henrico, Va., installed a Xerox DocuColor® 7002 Digital Press with Xerox FreeFlow Print Server. The press is used to produce photo books, calendars, note cards and other photo specialty products for AlphaGraphics’ customer, MemoriesAlive.com. The decision to purchase the device came after Lloyd Cozens, general manager, AlphaGraphics, attended one of Xerox’s Business Development Thought Leadership Workshops on book publishing.
