Global Imaging Acquires Better Quality Business Systems
Submitted by Corey Smith on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 09:22TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 31, 2008 -- Global Imaging Systems, a Xerox company (NYSE: XRX), is acquiring Better Quality Business Systems Inc., of New Albany, Ind.The acquisition continues Global's development of a national network of office technology suppliers to serve its ever-expanding base of small and mid-size businesses.Headquartered in Indiana, Better Quality also serves Greater Louisville, Elizabethtown, and Bowling Green, Ky., primarily with products from Kyocera-Mita. The company will continue supporting its Kyocera-Mita customers as it begins offering Xerox's full range of office printing products.
"Better Quality Business Systems has built a reputation as a trusted partner in the markets they serve," said Michael Shea, president and CEO of Global Imaging. "With this acquisition, Global Imaging gains not only a classic partner, but an entrée into a growing market."
Company co-owner and president Dwight Seals, will continue leading Better Quality as president, reporting to Bill Schmidt, president of CopyCo Office Solutions Inc., of Indianapolis, also a Global company. Better Quality becomes a satellite company of CopyCo., and will continue operating as Better Quality Business Systems.
"This is the next logical step for Better Quality Business Systems, which has been growing and expanding for years," said Seals. "Becoming a member of the Global and Xerox family only means better technology, support, and services for our customers."
Global Imaging is not acquiring the firm's IT outsourcing business, Better Quality IT, currently a wholly owned subsidiary of Better Quality Business Systems. That group will continue under the leadership of Joe Lawler, co-owner of Better Quality Business Systems. The IT company will undergo a name change during the next few months.
Better Quality has been serving the Southern Indiana business community since 1985. Seals and Lawler acquired it in 1997 and began dramatically expanding the business into new markets in Kentucky.

The new high-speed system makes it easier to produce books, manuals and trans-promotional applications. At a media pre-briefing here today for drupa 2008, Xerox took the wraps off the Xerox 650/1300 Continuous Feed Printing System, which combines speed, ease-of-use and workflow productivity into a powerful device for service bureaus, data centers, and commercial print providers.
The company also highlighted new printing technologies, workflow solutions, business development services and applications that fortify Xerox's leadership position in offering the industry's broadest portfolio of systems and solutions.
The Xerox 650/1300 can print up to 1,308 duplex 8.5" x 11" images per minute. The system uses dry toner, xerographic imaging and flash-fusing technology - a unique process that does not use heat or pressure or make contact with the paper, allowing the device to print on a wider array of substrates than competitive systems. It is part of an array of offerings that Xerox will bring to drupa, May 29 - June 11, showcasing how graphic communications companies can expand their businesses and profit from growth opportunities in digital printing.

The Xerox 650/1300 is a natural fit for publishing applications such as books and manuals. New high-speed technology and a streamlined workflow yield the high productivity customers need, while sharp text and graphics ensure the professional look and feel readers expect. Xerox's patented Print Line Management helps operators view, manage and respond to every component in the print line from any print engine's touch-screen interface.
Maximum resolution is 1200 x 600 dpi and an optional Xerox FreeFlow™ DocuSP™ print controller is also available. The system also features a wide print web that enables flexible imposition so users can print more efficiently and reduce costs and paper waste.
"The monochrome market continues to be a solid revenue generator for our customers and Xerox's advancements in continuous feed serve to help our customers ratchet up even more profitable growth," said Allen.
The Xerox 650/1300 Continuous Feed Printing System will be available for order taking immediately in Europe. In North America and developing markets, order taking will begin in the second quarter of this year. The Xerox 650/1300 will have a U.S. price of approximately $495,000 per engine.
At drupa, Xerox will also demonstrate the speed and flexibility of its 490/980 Color Continuous Feed Printing System, the fastest full-color toner-based continuous feed device. Unveiled in October of last year, the Xerox 490/980 prints at 600 dpi resolution and maintains top speed when printing full color or black and white, regardless of the number of colors used or the weight of the paper. It prints 226 feet per minute (69 meters) or 493 images per minute two-up, simplex on 8.5" x 11" paper, and 986 images per minute when in the duplex configuration.
The Xerox booth at drupa 2008 will be located in Hall 8b and is expected to be visited by more than 100,000 visitors during the 14-day event.

Canon and EFI Complete Compatibility Testing for EFI's Colorproof XF for Canon imagePROGRAF Printers

As SBS Arizona marks their one-year anniversary, this development allows the branch to strengthen its core business, while strategically growing its resources to continue to successfully support a market that spans across Arizona and New Mexico.
Uni-copy brings a strong community background and relationship with Sharp to the SBS Arizona branch. Founded in 1966, Uni-Copy has been in the industry for just under 41 years and has been a Sharp dealer for 27 years. SBS Arizona will provide seamless service to new and existing customers and will continue to honor existing equipment and contract agreements. The expansion brings the employee base of SBS Arizona to nearly 100, furthering its local resources to better serve the Arizona and New Mexico markets.
Sharp Business Systems of Arizona continues to be managed by president Rich Ferraro. “As the first established branch of Sharp Business Systems we are excited by this expansion and look forward to gaining valuable insight and resources from the Uni-Copy team. Our long-term commitment is to focus on outstanding local service while delivering the best-in-class document products and solutions to our Arizona- and New Mexico-based customers,” said Ferraro.
Sharp Business Systems Strategy
Sharp Imaging and Information Company of America (SIICA) plans to establish more than 20 local Sharp Business Systems branches during the next few years.
